The 50 Greatest Books...

The Globe and Mail began this year with a search for the 50 Greatest Books. Each week a new book is revealed – in no order - and an expert writes about each book selected.
What makes a great book? The editor admits that “A great book is adjudged a great book over time by virtue of offering things — astonishing ideas, unforgettable characters, imaginative sublimity, glorious prose — that cannot be got elsewhere, and that tell us something new about the human (or other) condition.” Some of the first selections include Huckleberry Finn, Don Quixote, Ulysses and Das Kapital. The book selections have all been thought-provoking and interesting, and the forum, where suggestions for books are submitted and the comments are posted also makes great reading.

I liked the 50 greatest books site and found that even though I do not agree with all the selections I certainly got a lot of suggestions for future reading. Would you like to have a space in your blog where we could include lines from our favorite poems??
