Only 313 Days Left in his Presidency.........

Reuters reports that President Bush, while discussing the state of the war in Afghanistan with military and civilian personnel said that he wished he could be fighting with the troops:
"I must say, I'm a little envious," Bush said. "If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed."

"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks"

I have always thought that it was completely hypocritical that none the Bush daughters or other of the Bush cousins or relatives is serving in Afghanistan or Iraq. Particularly Iraq…. Even worse that Bush avoided service during his youth.

Don’t you think there should be a minimum baseline requirement: you shouldn’t be able to declare war unless you are prepared to send your own children and family members?

You don't know it, but you've just made a strong point for re-instituting the draft.

I don't think she means a draft - there should be a moral imperative - you can't wage war unless you and your children sign up to go.........would make leaders think really carefully about whether war is truly necessary.

Here's another question. Let's assume that a leader can only declare/wage war if they are prepared to have their children sign up. Would a female leader be as ready to send her children as a male leader would? Does age play a factor? Would an older father, who had gone to war be more or less likely to send his children into the fray?
