One Step Forward, Two Steps Back...

Just when things are going swimmingly and just when the end of treatment is achingly in sight - yep, reality strikes. All winter long we have managed to avoid colds, flu and other modern bugs. While I have been in Kansas I have been volunteering at an elementary school twice a week helping a group of Grade Two students with their reading and writing skills. I have been careful - but I am hoping that the little monsters didn't give me a bug that I have passed on to Miguel. I can't tell who got sick first - but I have certainly had a bad cough and fever. Poor Miguel has been felled - back to all the bad infections of the winter. High fever, messed up white blood counts, terrible cough and congested lungs. Today was the start of his last 3 week cycle of chemo and the doctor decided to proceed despite his infections. For now, he is back at home - and I'm hoping he can keep out of the hospital (so he had better take all his meds). Just when I had hoped all the madness was behind us.......

Oh - did I mention there is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect (and it is presently pouring, blowing and thundering)? I have heard more thunder while I have been in Kansas over the last 6 months than I have heard in my whole life. If all goes well, I will miss tornado season - not that I'm not curious to see what a tornado is like, but I'll be happy to avoid being in one.

I would look at it as two steps forward and 1/2 a step back...
