Another day, another State (or two)....

Well, we clearly picked one of the weirdest weeks to drive across the southern United States.....our trip to Amarillo, Texas was uneventful - but then once we hit New Mexico the weather started to be crazy. Our second night was just outside Albuquerque, NM, in Sky City. Sky City is the oldest continuously-inhabited community in North America - a vibrant spiritual home to the people of Acoma. There are over 300 adobe and white sand stone structures in Sky City - and get this.....the homes are owned by Acoma Pueblo females who pass them on to their youngest daughters. Yay daughters.....

As we left Sky City to continue our drive west, we ran into black forbidding clouds that brought huge dust storms, rain, hail and strong winds. Our drive that day went through at least 5 rain storms and probably 20 different micro-climates. We started the morning with mid-70's weather, drove through cold rains and as we approached Flagstaff, AZ a huge snow storm greeted us. We had to stop for gas just outside Flagstaff and it was freezing. The funny part is that people who had been driving eastbound were getting out of their cars in sleeveless shirts and shorts.....they had left California in the 90's and driven into snow. We did manage to get out of New Mexico after a very long day and arrived in Laughlin, Nevada. My sister found hotel rooms for us for $22 in Laughlin......so off to Laughlin we went.

Laughlin is on the Colorado River - across the river from us is New Mexico. We appear to have brought the crazy weather with us......a few days before we arrived here it as 115 degrees and today it is in the 50's with howling winds. No desert here today....We decided to stay here for two nights (see above $22 hotel rate) and will move to Palm Springs tomorrow.

In good good good news........Miguel's cancer has disappeared - he was at the oncologist today. His white blood counts are still too low, so he will get some injections over the next few days.....but so far this is just perfect news. Yay Miguel.....

We haven't had internet as we have traveled and we have been pretty pooped.......we are well and safe and I can't wait to get back to Vancouver to see everyone.

Was wondering how your trip was. Saw reports about storms in the area that you were travelling. Glad that you are safe and just have interesting stories to tell and are experiencing a very memorable trip.
