The High Heel Conspiracy.........

You probably haven't heard me ranting about the "high heel conspiracy", have you..... Well, today is the day......... This is more insidious than the "grape jelly conspiracy" as it affects every woman in America ....every single one.

It is the crime perpetrated by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex in the City and by other women in the television and movies. The crime? Making regular, normal women believe that women can actually wear high heeled sexy shoes in every-day life. The clothing and shoes in Sex and the City set trends - and somehow stilettos were a staple. Remember the episodes in the television show Sex and the City with Carrie running down the street to join her other shoe-tortured friends at a trendy restaurant? Even in the recent Sex and the City movie, an older, more mature Carrie is seen running through New York City on New Year's Eve (in the snow and slush) in towering heels (and guess what? she didn't slip once). One of the slavish followers of the trend has been Oprah - the friend of normal women everywhere. She talks about her adoration of gorgeous designer heels and yet we all know that she only wears them standing up for about 3 minutes during her show. Thanks to the gossip columnist Perez Hilton, we can see what wearing these shoes has done to Oprah......

OK....maybe Oprah wore stilettos for more than 3 minutes on her show - but no modern woman can wear high heels for every-day life for longer than 4 minutes......

It is obviously a form of mass hypnosis which has led women to choose to wear shoes that cause pain and restrict mobility and to believe that they are even remotely attractive. Oprah is now one of the perpetrators of that society wide trance. Just a little higher and we can all start binding our feet so they can fit more neatly into the pointy toe they are being shoved down into.

I never realized that high heels were an actual conspiracy. But of course you are right. Women are suckered into thinking we need these shoes. Thanks for nothing SJParker and Oprah.

I agree. It is a conspiracy. Oprah - shame on you. Does Oliver Stone know about this?

(ps. I love your blog)

I loved Perez Hilton's comment about Oprah's feet: "Even Billionaires get Bunions" I often think Oprah is torn between being the voice of regular women and wanting to join the hot women of mediaville. On a real day, she wears sweat pants (and can't get into boutiques in France), yet she recommends luxury cashmere and high-end shoes. But despite it all - she gets bunions just like the rest of us.

Not a conspiracy but a trance, and every time we act in accordance with the trance that has us in its grip, we perpetuate it and the more power we have as a role model for the trance induced beliefs, the more effectively we perpetuate it....and so it goes. Hence the significance of Oprah wearing the torture shoes as what to have and what success looks like for women. too bad she doesn't have more insight or wisdom than the rest of us

Most women who complain about heels are over weight and can't handle wearing them. That's fine. Don't drag the rest of the world down with your problems.
