Inauguration Party - My House

The weekend national newspapers in Canada are filled with Inauguration facts and trivia from the past - there is full television coverage of the symbolic train ride from Delaware to Washington. There is a celebratory spirit evident, despite the cold cold weather conditions. The new President is going to Washington....... Watching the train today, I was reminded of the lyrics to Peace Train by Cat Stevens - don't you think it is applicable to today's events?

Peace Train
by Cat Stevens

Now I've been happy lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately,
dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be,
some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together,
go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer,
it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living,
it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer,
soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately,
thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

If you go to Youtube, you can hear Cat Stevens singing the song then, and at the Nobel Concert in 2006 - it was a meaningful song of my generation and you will see that it has great import today.

It will be an exciting few days. Miguel's eldest grandson will be at the Inauguration and at one of the Inauguration Balls where the Obamas will appear. Not that he will be anywhere near them, but it is still exciting for a young man who took a leave from his job to be a volunteer on this historic campaign.

So - come to my house on Inauguration Day - the television will be on, champagne will be flowing. Jump on the peace train........
