What a difference a week makes....

Last week, my mother was completely bed-ridden. She couldn't stand up or walk. After her cementoplasty - a miracle - she can walk again. There is pain when she is walking, but she can walk. After a few days to recover, she returned to her assisted living Lodge, and there has never been a happier more joyful person than my mom, knowing she could go home.

Luckily we were referred to an excellent and responsive palliative and elder care community care nurse who has been very helpful getting my mom some assistance to dress and bathe, and who will help her as her disease progresses. My mother LOVES not eating hospital food and she LOVES being out of the hospital. The goal is to keep her out of the hospital if we can.

For me, this has been a great few days of recovery. I was actually able to get some sleep, to pay bills, to see some friends and to NOT think about spending all my time at the hospital. My mother has so many friends and things to do at her Lodge, she really doesn't need me for company - and this has been a great relief.

I did manage to see "Date Night" with the Tuesday movie crowd - we all enjoyed it. Tina Fey is funny and endearing - and there were lots of very funny scenes. I had a great time every night watching Jon Stewart - his gospel choir responses to Fox News were some of the funniest things I have seen. Did I mention that I had been able to sleep at night and not wake up at 3:30 in the morning? You see......what a difference a week makes.....

So glad to hear 'bout your Mom. I've just caught up by reading your blogs back into March and didn't realize how much I've missed!
hugs from your older meaner sister's younger friend, JJ
