Children, don't let your parents grow up to be Candidates....

It appears that it isn’t enough to just be on the stage with your politician parent anymore. A child has to do more than just work tirelessly manning the phones, working in the campaign office or meeting and greeting supporters. More is required these days….

Meghan McCain, the 23 year old daughter of John McCain started her own blogette in September, 2007 about her journey on the campaign trail. Her blog (complete with its own photographer and videographer) is a behind-the-scenes glimpse of this fashionista who travels on the campaign trail with her own little entourage of friends. Her blog publishes the playlists of her favourite music and also includes her obsession with shoes and aviator sun-glasses.

Then there is Chelsea Clinton who has taken the more traditional approach to supporting her parent. She travels with or without her mother, makes speeches and phone calls – it is clear that she is obviously a serious and mature young woman. It is interesting that although we have “known” Chelsea Clinton since she was a young teenager, we know so little about her.

I enjoyed this article about how Chelsea had a remarkably public childhood and yet seemingly avoided all of the temptations that befall others on the public stage.

How important are the voices of the candidates’ children? Will Meghan McCain be able to attract young voters to vote for her father? I’m not quite sure – but if you want to know the daily activities, press and happenings of all the candidates’ children, there is even a blog about that.
