For my wacky knitting friends......

I have many friends and readers who are knitters (and crafters). This is for them (and you know who you are)

Performance artists, Stan and Dutes will perform "radical needlework" this week at the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University. The pair crochet a tube out of pink acrylic yarn, Untitled (Pink Tube), with each at opposing ends of the weaving. The tube grows, keeping them tethered together while also pushing them apart. It is an ongoing performance of indefinite duration with the two always in public and always together. The tube, now 40 feet in length, was started about five years ago as one of the pair's collaborative pieces. You read it here first!

I think that I am one of the whacky knitters. Not sure that I would enjoy watching two people sit and knit for 1 1 /2 hours. I would want to just leave and do my own knitting. Have difficulty understanding the point of this but I am sure that someone will explain the esoteric quality of this.
What do they do with the knittng when finished or do they ever finish? Who decides that they are finished? The clock? Do they unravel the work and use the yarn again? If yes, this is cheaper than getting out some oils and canvas and painting.

I am recommending a book called "The Knitting Circle" by Ann Hood. I have been sick with the flu for a week and it is the only book I could stand to read. It is passionate about the healing abilities of knitting. I don't knit yet, but I might just start! Linda
