It's all about baseball babeeee.........

Today is an important day – a very important day for many afflicted Americans. It is almost as important as next weekend’s Final Four tournament (everyone in Kansas will be cheering on the Jayhawks) – almost. Today is very important - it is the start of baseball season.

Let me explain………. When I first met Miguel, I didn’t understand the depth of his loyalty and devotion for the Chicago Cubs - I now realize that his happiness and inner peace is directly linked to the daily performance of the Cubs. The Cubs have not won the World Series in a million years – they have rarely even made the playoffs....but they are beloved by their fans. A few years ago we made it to Wrigley Field (I must admit it is a wonderful place) - Miguel hadn’t been there in probably 30 years and getting back to Wrigley was probably one of the most memorable days of his life (go figure).

Last year the Cubs made it to the playoffs – but lost in the first round. I often think that last fall, Miguel’s worst news wasn’t that he had cancer, but that the Cubs failed to make it to World Series (again).

I often play bridge with Jacob from the Northeast – the first thing you learn about him (other than he is a good bridge player) is that he is a Boston Red Sox Fan. My friend Beth in St. Louis? Cardinal’s fan, and don’t you forget it. There are baseball nuts everywhere here in the this country....

So today the season opens in Chicago (in the pouring cold rain). There are 162 games in the season and Miguel if he can, will watch every single one (the joy of being retired). In my opinion, there is a good chance the Cubs will disappoint him again this year…… We are going to see the Cubs play in St. Louis in early May (not Wrigley Field, but the next best thing)….. In the meantime, for the next 162 days or more, if you need to find Miguel you will know where to find him…..by the television or by the computer watching his beloved Cubs.......
