Basketball and Fundraising........

Tonight KU plays University of Memphis for the national basketball championship (go Jayhawks). Everything in Kansas will stop for this game. For this Canuck, this devotion and love for college sports is very interesting - there is nothing like this in Canada. Even more interesting for this Canuck (who has spent many years helping non-profit organizations raise money) is how these championship wins will mean more money flowing into the University of Kansas.........

KU competing in the national basketball championship (and as well, the KU football team won the Orange Bowl this year) means that donations to KU will be up incrementally this year. When the teams win, donors give more to the university - it is that easy. Donors supporting all kind of academic and other programs (including athletics) typically give MORE when their sports teams are winning. In 2007, KU raised 94.3 million dollars - and it is sports that gets the donors talking. The stellar performance of the basketball and football teams this year, means even more money for 2008 - a benefit for all programs.
