Book Organization and Display
When I was 14 years old I started working in our local public library shelving books and performing other library duties. Over the course of many years I learned the Dewey Decimal System backwards and forwards (a big lot of good that does me now)....and I learned that I only like books with their spines at the edge of the shelf (I know many of my readers heartily disagree with this cutting-edge philosophy). But here is a new way to display books. Here are some samples (check out the link for more imaginative displays).....

I am with you, books shelved at the edge of the shelf by categories. If I had time, I would try to get my fiction shelved by author. I am sure that you can do much better than I can with Dewey Decimal but I always remember that biographies are 921.
I do not understand the shelving method displayed. What a bother trying to get the bottom book in the pile. Obviously, the piles will not be very high and heavy books should not be placed at the top of the pile. Books should be accessible and in categories that are logical.
This gives me another project for the winter when I do not want to go out in the cold. Put my books in order and maybe even delete some that have not been read for many years.
