Want to see some good movies?

I have seen some good movies in the past few weeks - Rachel Getting Married, Happy-Go-Lucky and Slumdog Millionaire. If you are interested in the trials and tribulations of a complicated family life, then Rachel Getting Married is for you. I adored the depiction of the rich modern multi-cultural wedding and found the portrayal of family relationships to be honest and realistic. It isn't a happy or pretty portrayal - but it is a good movie. If you want happy, joyously happy - then go and see Happy-Go-Lucky. The heroine, a plucky positive teacher lives each day seeing the best in everyone and everything around her. The cynic in me sometimes found her annoying - but in the end, I had nothing but respect for her approach to life.

Today I saw Slumdog Millionaire, a very special movie about Jamal, an exceptional young man who has grown up in the slums of Mumbai. His winning performance on the Indian edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire brings him to the attention of the police and as his past is revealed the mystery of his win becomes more complicated and magical. Made on a small budget, but replete with wonderful performances and heart-breaking images of life in the slums, you MUST see this movie.
