Winter Wonderland in Vancouver

Last Saturday night it snowed in Vancouver - a rare occurrence that causes troubles for everyone. There is very little snow removal equipment in the city, nobody here has proper tires or experience in driving and the city is hilly - factors that make snow very dangerous. It is pretty to have snow around the holidays - but come on - it paralyzes the city. Here is the view from our back window - the temperatures are still cold and the snow is here to stay for at least a week.

So what does someone who is "urban snow phobic" do when the streets are impassable and dangerous? She makes (for the first time ever) Beaujolais Wine Jelly. This is supposedly great with brie and other cheeses - but as I don't have any brie in the house, we tried it with a pork roast the other night and it was a great accompaniment. Here is a photo of the real beaujolais and its jelly offspring.....

Don't get the wrong idea - despite a flurry of biscotti making last week and the jelly experiment, I am not getting ready for Christmas. We are having a "no presents" holiday this year - a first for us. I'll let you know how that goes after Christmas morning when everyone realizes what no presents really means.....
