Yes, it is already past the middle of August. Early August brought my only niece (aged 11) to visit. My older meaner sister flew with my niece into Seattle (long story - but it involves a "free ticket" - you know....the kind that ends up costing 3 times the face value and a whole lot of complications) I drove down to meet them and we had a day to visit the city. It was my niece's first solo trip to Vancouver - we all thought it was important for her to spend some time with my mother. It was a hoot seeing my mother (stubborn) and my niece (stubborn) face off against each other.
My niece has now gone home and my older meaner sister is here with us for a few weeks. We do have a road trip planned for September - more on that later. I can tell you that it involves visiting new (to us) States, a visit to see the Chicago Cubs (and Miguel's brother and grandson), and visiting friends. There may even be a "road trip within a road trip" with my friend Wendy..... life is good....
Before the road trip though, a new laptop was mandated. My desktop is the slowest piece of crap on earth and I couldn't leave on a trip without a laptop.....so....thanks to Dell I now have a new toy. A black laptop - no fancy colours for me. But now I can blog, play online bridge and catch up on the news... Miguel can keep up with the Cubs....life is grand, ain't it.....
Did I mention that I enjoyed Julie and Julia last week? Meryl Streep was great - and I found the story of Julia Child and her life very interesting. I enjoyed learning about her great married love and the eight years of dedication it took for her to finish her first cookbook. I was never a serious cook, so I never used her cookbook - but I did enjoy watching her shows on television and I certainly have perused her books many times. I liked the movie very much - go and see it.....
