Welcome to Kansas........

It has been a busy week. Wendy (who I met at age 14) and her college-aged daughter Emily traveled down to Wichita for a visit. My sister had already arrived for the drive back to Vancouver - so it has felt like a party here for the last few days. We all drove up to visit the University of Kansas at Lawrence. It is a beautiful campus - situated above the city on Mount Oread. The city itself is full of Victorian homes and the downtown main street has lots of interesting thriving stores. Wendy maintains that she had her best breakfast EVAH at the historic Eldridge Hotel - crab cakes eggs benedict. We believe her (because she keeps telling us about it). We also visited the Presidential Library, Museum and Home of Dwight Eisenhower, which is located in Abilene, Kansas. We have talked non-stop for hours each day, eaten every meal out, gone to the movies, visited Wichita tourist sites (whether they wanted to or not), watched junky television at night and laughed a lot - a lot. Friends don't realize how much I appreciate them coming down here to visit - it has brought such joy in our lives. So thank you Wendy, Emily and everyone else who has come to visit.....

Today it is time to start packing up to go back to Vancouver. I suspect this will take a few days - and then it is time to drive back to Canada, eh.

As they say, we had the time of our lives. The trip to Lawrence was the highlight, but I have to say it was followed closely by one memorable evening watching The Farmer Takes a Wife. We both loved seeing the beautiful Kansas countryside, but more than that, we loved being with you and Miquel and Karen.
