Stitching in Wichita.........

When I am in Vancouver, I periodically meet with my friend Lee to discuss books, stitching and our lives (in that order). She is a devoted stitcher and I have great admiration for her neat, orderly and prolific stitchingworks. My stitching, although enthusiastic is always a bit pulled out of shape, rough at the back - and sometimes missing a stitch or two...... but....that doesn't always matter, as somehow, when it is made into a pillow (or two) it still looks pretty good.

Here are two identical pillows I finished while sitting in waiting rooms here in Wichita. They were purchased at a charming shop on Bowen Island in British Columbia. When I was finished the needlework, I had the pillows made at a stitching store here in Wichita. They will be gifts for two special friends. I'm working on a big flowery pillow now - no more lighthouses for a while - they make me homesick.

I leave the knitting to my wacky knitting friends, but having said that, I am enjoying The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood (thanks to a recommendation by Linda, a reader of this blog).

Love the pillows. Will check about the book- I would also recommend the Friday night Knitting club and a series of books about yarn shops and murder mysteries by Maggie Sefton, Monica Ferris and Mary Kruger. My favourites are by Maggie Sefton which involve a yarn shop in Colorado that I would love to visit regularly and Monica Ferris' yarn shop for all of us who love to work with yarn. I am lucky enough to live near a murder mystery store the Sleuth of Baker street which caters to mystery book lovers. You just have to name a topic and there are mysteries associated with that topic.
Happy needle pointing and knitting.

I just loved the Knitting Circle. Am going to get Nora's Friday Night Knitting Club next. Krista, your pillows look fantastic and will make your friends very happy. I bet the flower pillow willbe fun to do --probably more colours to look at work with.

After I read the book The Knitting Circle I was lucky to receive a gift from my friend Wendy. She bought me my first ever set of knitting needles and beautiful hand dyed yarn from Chile. She taught me how to knit a scarf and the real achievement is that I am left handed and she managed to get me knitting right away. I was also recovering from the effects of the flu that left me dizzy. In spite of all the obstacles I find knitting very peaceful and satifying. There is something very zen like about knitting....
